One of my friends, Matt Cone, created a phrase that "Everything Works Out Perfectly", or EWOP. It's been about 15 years since he created that phrase, but I still use it today. Times when you are frustrated that things aren't working out, know that it will take a bit of time and soon you will see that things really did work out better in the end.
Here is an example that I wanted to share with you.
I booked a sailing trip on my honeymoon in Turkey and the company got everything wrong. "We're excited to invite you and your daughter aboard..." "We've reserved two cabins for the four of you..." "We gave your reservation to someone else as they booked online..." For some reason nothing was quite right. Finally, they got us on booked on another boat.
We arrived at the boat, only to find they had put us on an all French boat for seven days- French passengers, French crew, and even the menu was in French. I called them back and they said that was the only choice they had for us. If it had been for a day, I wouldn't have cared. But I couldn't imagine being stuck on a boat with no one who spoke our language for a week. We cancelled (with fees) and started looking for other options.
The boat next door recommended us to his company. We walked down the street to their office and they had a boat that would fit our schedule perfectly. Minutes later we were on a larger boat with nicer cabins. As we were the first ones to arrive, we got to choose the bow in the front with the largest cabin and portholes that looked out over the water. That week was a blast as we were with a great selection of people from around the world, snorkeled in quiet bays and stopped in cute little towns along the Adriatic. I was so happy we had made the choice to move. And the cherry on top? It was still cheaper than our original booking, even after the cancellation fees!
Next time you are frustrated by how things are going? Take a deep breath and know that "Everything Will Work out Perfectly", even if it doesn't feel like it at the moment.
